Economic Development’s mission is to ensure the financial stability of the City by assisting users, developers, and brokers with business relocation, business expansion and improvements that create new employment opportunities and increased investment in the City and market Oceanside as a regional visitor’s destination.

Oceanside has a dynamic and robust business climate. Manufacturing, distribution, tourism and agriculture remain the region's top industries, but in recent years, Oceanside has become home to biotech industries that are among the area's fastest growing business sectors.

Economic Development encourages a business-friendly environment by acting as a liaison, assisting projects through the City process, hosting and attending broker events, and developing marketing materials that create economic growth opportunities for Oceanside through private capital investment.

Economic Development also seeks appropriate new businesses that will bring quality shopping and dining opportunities to the area and lucrative employment opportunities to community members. Additionally, staff works with local established businesses to address regional market demands and helps them to sustain their competitiveness and viability.

The City’s Economic Development focuses on the following main goals:

Create new quality jobs through business retention and expansion of existing businesses and recruit and assist new prospective businesses to the City;
Assist new prospective retail stores and restaurants;
Increase tourism market share principally through new hotels, and work with Visit Oceanside, Welcome Center, Oceanside Tourism Council (OTC) and the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce to market Oceanside as a tourism destination;
Market and enhance public relations to assure awareness of Oceanside as a great place to do business.
